Onsite Volunteers:
Volunteering can be very rewarding and provides great opportunities to meet other volunteers and guests.
There are three main “onsite” shifts with multiple individuals covering each shift.
- 6pm to 11pm: Setup as needed (paperwork, cots, snacks, etc), check in guests, supervise smoke breaks. Lights out and quiet time after 10pm.
- 11pm-2am; 2am-5am: Assist guests with any needs or questions, check in an occasional guest. Many students love this time to concentrate on homework.
- 5am to 8:30am; 6:30am-8:30am: Prepare for guests departure (snacks, coffee, etc), wake guests with an alarm, check out guests (return personal belongings and medication), supervise a smoke break, take down bedding to prepare for laundry, clean up paperwork and tables to return the center to regular facility day use.
Onsite volunteers must be 18 or older, be willing to undergo a background check, and complete both online and onsite training.
Offsite Volunteers:
There is still plenty of work to do! Register in our volunteer management system and opportunities will be posted as different needs arise. Offsite volunteers do not interact with guests.
Examples of “offsite” opportunities:
- Laundry – Wash bedding used by guests.
- Tabling – Staff informational tables at outreach events in the county.
- Collateral creation – Use tools like Canva to make custom flyers.
- Cleaning – Deep clean the room in St. John’s church we are using.
- Donation pickup – Pickup donations as needed throughout Cache County.
Offsite volunteers can be 17 or younger, but will need parental permission and/or supervision.
Street Outreach Volunteers:
Volunteers go out for a few hours to search for unhoused persons in order to:
- Connect them to resources,
- Provide blankets,
- Offer support.
Volunteers go out in groups of 2-3 typically from 10 PM to midnight.
Street Outreach volunteers must be 18 or older, be willing to undergo a background check, and complete both online and onsite training.
